When I herd about Dragonica online first thought that I had was “hey look some one trying to copy maple story.”Boy was I mistaken.
While both games are side schooling, and both games artwork is done in the chibi style of anime, that is where there common traits end.
First the art work is a bit different. While maple story is very cartoony dragonica takes a more computerized style.
The differences are not just cosmetic either. Dragonica’s battle system and game play are based around performing combos. The longer the combo the bigger the reward. Dragonica’s class system is based of the typical base classes of fighter, rouge, archer, and mage, with the mage class acting as the healer class. Each class at level 20 branches off and has the option of becoming a damage dealing class or a support class.
One of the most unique features of the game is the grading system. After each dungeon you and your party are given a grade from a-d and if your lucky you can even earn a supper or S grade. The grades are more then just bragging rights, the higher your grade the more rewards you get for finishing the dungeon. Which means the more chances you have to get rare items.
Each dungeon has 4 different parts each one increasing in both difficulty and recommended party size.
This game is basically just hack and slash. There is weapon and armor enhancing but that just consists of bringing the right amount of powder to the town blacksmith and your done. It would have been nice to see some form of crafting in the game. But seeing as this game is meant to be just a platform hack and slash I am not to shocked there is not.
Unlike other mmo’s out there your not going to spend a lot of time shopping or time wasting in town. Since there is not a lot to do. Shopping is quick and easy and even the player run shops have there own personal screen so you are not bogged down trying to walk through 1500 players sitting in the same town hawking there goods. Also the interface let’s you search for what item your looking for by a variety of was such as type and level for even faster shopping.
While there is really no variety of quests anyone looking to log on do a few quests and or dungeons and be off in 30 minutes will like the way there set up. If your looking for more depth you might want to check out runes of magic. Cause this game is all about hack and slash.
Over all this is a nice way to unwind after a hectic day. However if your looking for depth this is not it.
