Recently I had to write a Post about facebook for my computer class. I thought i would share it incase some one does not know about something i touched upon here.
My Top 5 Favorite features on Facebook.
1) Events:
- Events are a great way to let your friends and family know about upcoming parties and Gatherings that you are having. To create and event simply type the word event in the Top search bar in facebook, and then click on the Create event button on top right of the page. From there you just fill in the when where what sections and select your guests then click on the Create event button on the bottom of the page and your event is now created and your guests have been invited.
2) Importing your blog with Notes:
- If you maintain a Blog and would like to have your posts update to facebook you can add your blog to your facebook notes. To do this:
Type notes in the top center search box, click on the application. Then on the right hand side of the page towards the bottom you will see a link that says edit notes. Click on that link. There will be a box to input the address of the Blog you want to import. After you add the address make sure you click on the box under the test input area. Once you do that just click on the Start importing button on the bottom and your all set.
3) Pages:
- If you have a business/ Group that you want to have a presence on facebook but you do not want to these customers/subscribers to see your personal information/ wall posts then facebook pages are for you.
To create a facebook page Type pages in the top center search box on facebook and click on the ads and pages application. Click on the create page button (located on either the upper right or left hand side). If you page is for a community then fill in your group name in the text field in the community section on the left. If it is for an official business or product/ Service then pick from the options on the right that best describe the page you want to create and enter then name in the text field there. Once you fill the in field your page is created and you can begin to fill in your pages information and start posting information on your new page wall.
4) removing unwanted comments from your wall:
- Every one and a while some one comes along and posts something on your wall you do not want any one to see. Be it a secret gift plan for your wife, a coworker talking about something your not proud of at work, or just an overly rude comment. Well you can remove these rather simply. From your home page select the message that the person wrote on your wall ( it will be in the news feed section) from there simply click on the X next to the comment and Bam it is removed.
5) Blocking Games requests:
– Not every one on facebook likes get game requests. If your one of them and tired of people sending them to you despite you asking them not to you can simply block the game requests by clicking on the requests link on the right side of your home screen ( the see all link with in requests ) under the application request that has been sent to you on the left hand side there is a link that says “block ____ Game” click on that link and click ok on the window that shows up and now you will no longer get requests t play that game ( or use that app)
Account settings in Facebook can help keep your personal information secret, and also save you time by cleaning up your newsfeed by removing unwanted apps.
1) Privacy:
- First click on the drop down menu for account and click on Privacy settings. From there you can choose to let only your friends, your friends and there friends, or every one see your information. If you want to lock down your information even more you can view settings link under the Basic Directory Information on the top of that page. Once there you can lock down who can search for you, send you friend requests, see your education background, your friends list and hometown and interest information.
2) application settings and removal:
- Rouge programs stealing your personal information has been a wide spread issue with facebook. If you want to limit what applications have access to your information or want to remove unused applications from your profile go to the account drop down menu on your home page. From there choose on Privacy settings. On the bottom of the page click on edit your settings under the applications and websites section in the bottom left. From there you can edit your settings as to what information applications can access from you. To remove the spammy/ unwanted apps click on the remove link under the applications you use under the middle section of the page. Then just click on any application you no longer use/ want to access you facebook profile.
